Chatter is often a sign of an active community, but the community does not exist in the chatter. And besides, who says a community of poets is in and of itself a good thing for poets and poetry? It can be, I've seen it. But it's not something that, once achieved, endures automatically. For example, a community that can't deal with its bullies isn't much of a community. Therapy wouldn't work if it were free and compulsory, but all the same.

Anyway, chatter isn't a poetics.
