Looked at the new volume of the Schuyler half of the Schuyler-O'Hara correspondence. I'm puzzled -- surely this pocket-sized subset of the Schuyler letters, coming so hard on the heels (what a lovely cliché, by the way) of the meschpuchah and so far in advance of the inevitable Kevin Spacey-as-FO'H biopic (an idea floated what, six years ago, by Kevin Killian, on the now nearly-done Poetics list?), isn't meant to be more than beach reading for completists.

A joy to learn that it is Schuyler who talks O'Hara into making his much-discussed grand entrance to Great Spruce Head par avion. More generally, it is pleasant to have it reinforced that most great poets were brilliant, confused, and often cautious in their twenties. The continued absence of O'Hara's side of the record... are there other items of correspondence in circulation besides this? Add it to the list of unfinishable projects: An open letter to Maureen Granville-Smith, pleading the case for posterity.
