The point is, we talk a lot about the economy -- but when it comes time for us to play something like the game of our lives, we poets, we take its most ruthless logics to the extreme. Scarcity, mystery, aura, something special. Even Desmond Dekker's crazy-great music like dirt becomes part of this machine of ruboff value -- in perfect antithesis to what we tell ourselves we're doing and saying.
