Re the PW thing to which Gina Franco has collated some responses: Craig's a rookie, he made some rookie mistakes: For starters, he forgot that there are women in the world and online, it's really unclear whether blogs will ever mean anything for sales, and inasmuch as it's possible to say without peeking into all the different sitemeters, Ron's traffic is an order of magnitude higher than Josh's or mine or Shanna's.
(What up with that, why my people not using Alexa anyway -- c'mon give up your privacy in the name of my ratings! [long pause] Well now that I write that out I can see the problem.)
Net net, Mike Scharf built something really remarkable in his tenure at the poetry desk, and those are big shoes to fill. Don't all look at Mike's feet at once, it makes him self-conscious. I can see how Craig would want to make a splash in his debut National Poetry Month with a big story -- I wish for his sake it wasn't the big story of 2003, and I also wish he hadn't pissed off half the population.
Credibility flies fast.
So much for my ever getting a starred review.
